Our Winter Travels

For some people winters can be long, cold, and boring. For my wife and I, the opposite is the truth. Winter months are usually our travel months because it’s easier for both of us to get some time off work.

This winter especially, we packed our itinerary with a lot of action. We started in Prague to get a dose of European Christmas atmosphere and to catch up with our friends. After a few weeks of overindulging on Czech beer and delicious food we flew to Egypt. We had never been to Africa before and so we thought we should start our new year by putting our feet onto, for us, a new continent.

Our stay in Egypt was very pleasant. We managed to find the right balance between being lazy on a beach and exploring local villages and historical sites. We visited pyramids in Giza, the famous Temple of Karnak in the Valley of the Kings, drove through an eastern corner of Sahara desert, and traveled along parts of the river Nile.

As we were walking among the majestic columns of some 5000-year old Egyptian temples, we had no idea that in just a few months we would be climbing Mayan Pyramids in Belize…
