Episode 1/8: Magic of David Copperfield
Solo SUP-venture Around 365 Islands of Exuma Cay Chain (450km)
As I paddled north along the Exuma cays, I came to an area of Rudder Cut Cay, Musha Cay, and a handful of nearby islands owned by the famous illusionist David Copperfield. For a moment I debated whether I should stay at his exclusive resort for the bargain price of about $39,000 USD per night, but I opted for my preferred style – camping on a beach. Rather than luxury, I was more interested in finding a stainless-steel, underwater piano with a mermaid called “The Musician.” The full-scale sculpture was made by Jason deCaires Taylor, commissioned and sunk by Copperfield for the snorkeling pleasure of his guests. Unfortunately, it was so windy that day that I couldn’t find it. I had more luck on my way back, a week later, and it was indeed spectacular!
